Port Partners

The Bar Pilots have a close working relationship with each of our nine port partners and regularly provide technical expertise and practical support. Below are some facts about each of the nine ports we serve.

While the Bar Pilots are typically seen navigating large ships through the San Francisco Bay, the Monterey Bay was added to the San Francisco pilotage grounds in 2001. Though Monterey is not a large commercial port like others that the Bar Pilots serve, the location hosts several cruise ships throughout the year, which boosts economic activity across Monterey’s waterfront.

In April of this year, a fire at the port pulled the Bar Pilots into action, where several Pilots maneuvered ships away from danger and allowed fireboats to put out the flames. The Bar Pilots look forward to the continued partnership with the Port of Benicia and the many maritime entities that utilize it.
