Largest toy drive in the country prepares to provide new bikes to families across San Francisco

 

With 31,000 families expected to pick up gifts this year, the Local 798 San Francisco Firefighters Toy Program is one of the largest in the country.

 

San Francisco Bar Pilots Name Capt. Anne McIntyre as Business Director

First female Columbia River Pilot brings 23 Years of Experience to the 170-year-old pilotage organization

 

The San Francisco Bar Pilots are pleased to announce that Capt. Anne McIntyre has joined the organization as Business Director. A former Columbia River Pilot and Oregon pilot commissioner, McIntyre comes to the Bar Pilots with a strong background in pilot association management and regulatory affairs.

100% of the total operating expenses for the San Francisco Bar Pilots are paid for by corporations and ship owner(s) who use pilot services provided by the San Francisco Bar Pilots. The majority of users are headquartered outside of the United States.

The Bar Pilots are regulated and licensed by both the United States Coast Guard and the California Board of Pilot Commissioners, and governed by state and federal laws.

Founded in 1850 by California’s first legislature, the Bar Pilots have been on the front lines of protecting Northern California’s pristine waters since the gold rush.

In 1789, the first US Congress gave states the right to regulate pilotage in their waters. Today, more than half of the states in the country have a state pilotage system.
