Serving their Community

For more than a decade, the Bar Pilots have supported the San Francisco Firefighters’ Annual Toy Program. It is the city’s largest and the nation’s oldest program of its kind. Through their time and financial support, the Bar Pilots have donated thousands of bicycles and other toys over the years to help make sure local children receive a holiday gift.

The Bar Pilots volunteer their services to guide the SS JEREMIAH O’BRIEN during its occasional tours in the Bay. A living museum on the National Register of Historic Places and a National Historic Landmark, the O’BRIEN is one of two remaining fully functional Liberty ships of the 2,710 built and launched during WWII. The O’BRIEN has the distinction of being the last unaltered Liberty ship and remains historically accurate. Moored at Pier 45, Fisherman’s Wharf, she is a premier San Francisco attraction.

In 2012, The San Francisco Bar Pilots Charitable Fund was established as a 501 (c) (3) organization to provide grants to public charities dedicated to preserving and enhancing San Francisco Bay’s maritime history, education, culture and the marine environment.
